Ever since City Year’s inception in 1988, Timberland has been a strong supporter of our organization’s commitment to service.  Along with providing us with resources to perform our work and being the former home of City Year New Hampshire’s headquarters, Timberland has its own incredible dedication to service.  As their website describes, “At Timberland, service is a way of life.  A belief in the power of people to transform their communities is one of our core values.”

On Thursday, September 20th, the Timberland sponsored City Year team serving at McDonough Elementary School, arrived at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Timberland’s Path of Service Program at an event called Serv-a-Palooza.  It was immediately clear that the employees volunteering have views that are aligned with Timberland’s beliefs.  There were people putting together lawn furniture, clearing out trails and walkways, and putting the finishing touches on small landscaping projects, all while laughing, smiling, and chatting with their fellow volunteers overlooking a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean.

City Year Volunteers

Many of City Year New Hampshire’s staff members and Project Leaders volunteered with Timberland, and it was great hearing their stories of the impact Serv-a-Palooza had on them and the Seacoast Science Center.  Below are several reactions from some of the City Year volunteers who attended.  Needless to say, it was a great event that showed how much impact a spirit of idealism and belief in the power of service can make on a local community.

“Serv-a-Palooza was absolutely beautiful!  Celebrating Timberland’s Path of Service Program at the Seacoast Science Center was refreshing and a great opportunity to engage in physical service with people from all walks of life.”  –Ricardo Esquivias, Staff Member at City Year New Hampshire

“It was the perfect combination of working with my kids during the day, and then getting to perform service in the evening and get to know the faces of Timberland.”—Brian Tierney, Corps Member serving at McDonough Elementary School

“Timberland is the McDonough team’s sponsor, so my team and I were grateful for a chance to get to know more employees, and hear more about the company’s involvement with service.”–Kate Meskey, Team Leader serving at McDonough Elementary School
