Striving for Excellence

In 2 days our 2010-2011 corps will be in downtown Manchester for their CY registration day. Moving to Manchester is almost like founding a site for CYNH; we have to establish ourselves in the community, cultivate service partnerships and gain the trust of the community members through our work.

Though CYNH has been around for 10 years now (and has always been a site with great determination and dedication to its work), we are striving for excellence in a different way this year. We are a step closer to becoming an National Impact Site (a City Year site that effects 50% of the high school dropouts in its area) and we are going to work harder and with more diligence.

Every year we strive to 181 our work and service, and this year is no exception. PITW #181 tells us to “Make it Better”; and that’s what we are trying to do for the schools, communities and students here in New Hampshire.

I am sure there will be challenges while moving our office location 45 minutes away and growing our corps by 10 and our staff by 4, and even by changing our in school service from middle schools to elementary schools; but we are working with a calm sense of urgency. This is the quiet before the storm; and in 2 days a storm of young people are going to enter Manchester, NH and take the city by storm with idealism, helpfulness, and passion for helping students stay in school and on track.
